Basics of Berger Blanc Suisse Puppy Care
Taking care of a Berger Blanc Suisse is such a joy! Also known as the White Swiss Shepherd dog or the snowy shepherd, the Berger Blanc Suisse is extremely intelligent and begin to display this trait very early on in their lives. Aside from smart, this breed is also very friendly by nature and they possess a strong sense of loyalty to their humans and their families. They are definitely a top choice if you are looking for a breed that would make an excellent family companion!
The Berger Blanc Suisse originated from the White German Shepherd and were in-line bred using a recessive gene in order to achieve its white color. They first appeared during the 1880s but they were not acknowledged until the early 20th centuries which was marked by a breeding program dedicated to the white-coated German Shepherds. They were officially acknowledged as a separate breed in the UKC during 1999 and since then, they have slowly been acknowledged among different organizations all over the world.
This breed originates from herding dogs and this means that they have a lot of energy in them. Taking this into consideration, it is best to feed them a healthy diet specifically formulated for active dog breeds. Feeding Raw is Best!
Female Berger Blanc Suisse’s can grow up to 24 inches high with males growing at least two inches taller than females. The female breed can weigh 55 to 77 lbs. while males can weigh up to 88 lbs. so it is always best to speak to your Breeder to make sure you are feeding your dogs with the sufficient amount of food that they need in order to reach their full potential.
Training a Berger Blanc Suisse puppy is not difficult as they are known to be a very smart breed who responds extremely well during training. They are not particularly independent nor are the strong-willed but it is still suggested that training start early. At an early age, you can already train your dog to partake in different dog sports such as agility, fly ball, rack, obedience, and herding. If not, you can also train them to be therapy or assistant dogs, as they tend to do very well in those areas, as well.
It is suggested to socialize this breed very early on in their life to prevent them from being too shy or too wary around people they are unfamiliar with.
Always remember, a puppy is only as good as their trainer so don’t forget to spend lots of time with them and to provide them with the skills they need as early as you can!
